Hi, my name is Madeleine and I am a 17-year-old unofficial cook and baker. I have loved to cook for years, something which probably stemmed from all the years baking with my grandmother and visiting her farm. My father and two younger brothers have celiac disease, preventing them from eating gluten, the name for a collection of proteins present in wheat, rye, barley, triticale, and malts. Though this disease is difficult to work with at times, gluten-free baking can be fun, almost like a science project. The disease is actually one of the reasons I am beginning this blog. Since the boys and my dad can’t eat the gluten pastries, cakes, and other baked goods I make, they are often foisted onto my friends, neighbors, family, and anyone who we think might have even a minute interest. This abundance of food and cakes and things hasmade me realize that it might be good for me to structure my cooking around something. That way, I could put more thought into what I made, and each thing would have more significance. So, I created this blog as a way to chronicle my cooking adventures and turn my favorite pastime into something more.
